Summary
After losing six men to Scylla, and what almost was the entire ship to Charybdis, Ulysses and his courageous crew sail onward, soon reaching the Isle of the Sun Titan. Ulysses was informed that, above all, he nor his crew were to eat the titan's cattle. No matter how hungry they may get, they are to eat only the food found on the island aside from the cattle. The crew scavenges for what little morsels they can find, however the temptation of the massive cows burn in their minds. Eventually, Eurylochus cannot take it any longer, and decides he would rather die on a full stomach and face the wrath of a titan than starve to death. When Ulysses slept one night, he and the crew slaughtered many of the cattle, being sure to offer a fair amount, before gorging themselves, much to the dismay of Ulysses. He decided that it would be best to leave immediately, however it was a poor decision indeed. Immediately after shoving off, the gods immediately sent a storm upon the ship, drowning all but Ulysses. He miraculously escaped on a raft, and drifted for days, soon reaching the whirlpool of Charybdis, of which he craftily escaped. However, on the high seas, Ulysses faced starvation. He would act as if he was dead, then would strangle the gulls that came to his carcass. He did this until he lost consciousness...
