Summary
After nearly escaping death, and losing all his crew, Ulysses awakened in a grove of trees, seemingly out of danger. Soon, he finds himself with a woman, a daughter of the titan Atlas, named Calypso. She takes quite a liking to Ulysses, and offers him eternal life with her on the island, similar to Circe's proposal. With a magical fire, she is able to see Ulysses's past, the flames echoing his memories and of events currently taking place. She shows him his wife, of Ithaca, but reminds him that he is happier with her. Calypso teaches Ulysses to use her fire, to relive his greatest moments at Troy, yet he still longs of home. One day, he meets a crow, who was once a man, or could talk regardless. He asks of the crow to report to him the events unfolding at Ithaca, to which the crow returns to him saying his wife and son are tormented by suitors, who long for the news of his death in order to take the throne. Enraged by this, Ulysses asks Calypso for one last deed: A ship, to depart and find Ithaca. She reluctantly agrees, and the hero is once again on his way.
