Summary
After leaving Calypso's isle armed with a small vessel, Ulysses moves slowly but surely in the direction of Ithaca. However, Poseidon had been oblivious of his activities until now. Fueled by rage, he sent a raging storm focused on the hero, with every intention to exterminate him. Yet one of his daughters, a naiad named Ino, was once injured by him in some way, shape, or form, and now seeks revenge. Before perishing a watery death, Ulysses meets the naiad, at which point she removed her veil and lent it to Ulysses. The magical shroud would allow its wearer to swim freely across the ocean without fear of growing weary. For two days he swam, wrapped in the veil, until he stumbled upon an island, strewn with rocky coast yet not a beach to be seen. Growing dangerously close to the rapids, the hero attempted to fight the tide, but alas, the shroud does not protect from current, nor a jagged coast. Eventually, he discovered a suitable area and pulled himself ashore, returning the veil to the sea and resting his mangled and hungry body.

Quotes to Think About
"Can that be Ulysses? I thought I had drowned him long ago. One of my meddlesome relatives up there must be shielding him, and I have a good notion who. Well, I'll give my owlish niece a little work to do." -Poseidon, page 125
This indicates that Poseidon is not finished with Ulysses now that he knows he is alive.
"But he kept fighting by instinct." -Page 125
This shows how Ulysses is so used to being in war, where he must fight for himself, and for others.
"There was a Nereid near, named Ino, who hated Poseidon for an injury he had done her long before."
-Page 125
Ino also hates Poseidon, so she will probably be a friend to Ulysses.
